Trip to Emerg

That's right, a trip to Emerg almost two weeks ago. It all started when I felt like I was coming down with a cold, while at work.  I had to call in for Friday, by Friday night I couldn't get a full breath. First off I chalked it up to being my asthma. ( I've had asthma since I was a child ) . Around 4am Satruday morning I decided to go to the hospital, because it was only worse when I was laying down, and my inhalers were not helping.

By then my Ventolin had increased my heart rate, and it felt like it was racing, on top of not being able to catch a full breath. Once I got into emergency, I got right in. They gave me two breathing treatments, and told me that it was just my asthma, and the upper respiratory I had just brought the attack on. Normally I'd believe it; however this time, it felt different. Any asthma attack I've had in the past ( 3 to count. My last one was seven years ago) did not feel how I was feeling at that time.
The breathing treatments didn't help, I was still short of breath and wheezing horribly. The doctor, gave me a prescription for prednisone and told me I should feel better once I get home, also that he wasn't going to subject me to chest x-rays.... hello dude I don't feel good. I felt like shit, so I let it go and left.

The rest of the day I couldn't do much, walking small distances put me completely out of breath, and by 7pm Saturday night, my husband drove me back to the hospital, because I still couldn't get a breath and then my ribs started hurting anytime I took a breath. We got in right away, and thankfully got a new doctor, who sent me for chest x-rays and gave me a stronger breathing treatment. He came back after my x-rays and told me that I had an pneumonia. Which when I look back, it makes total sense. I didn't feel good at all and wasn't thinking. They gave me antibiotics, a new inhaler and prednisone and sent me on my way.

By 4am Sunday morning, I could sleep comfortably, and it was glorious. I was completely exhausted by then. I had to take a week off work ( my pneumonia was contagious ) and I needed to take it easy.

I got to spend more time with my daughter and actually be home to tuck her in at night.Up until two weeks ago I had never had an pneumonia. They suck, and I'm glad I went and got looked at.

The one thing I did take away from being that sick was that I need to slow down. I need to take time to spend with my family and for myself and enjoy it more often. I need to let all the other stuff from work, and other little things, take the back seat. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise.
